Dos and Don’ts in Photos

Don't be extravagant
On October 7, 2025, Princess Astrid, representing her brother King Philippe of Belgium, led a business trip to Sunnyvale in California.Above, we see the Princess donning an extravagant colorful dress with shocking red socks. The showy attire seemed more appropriate for a Mardi-Gras ball than for a serious economic mission.
Adding spontaneous action to the gaudy outfit, the Princess plunged into a dance following the strong beat of the song Alors on danse, swaying and shaking her body, raising her arms in the air and twirling with her partner.
The day before, Princess Astrid was at Odoo’s San Francisco headquarters, below, wearing a multi-color pair of its branded tennis shoes matching her explosive-colored dress.
In the past, at a public function a Princess would present herself in a dignified and elegant manner, a symbol of the Monarchy she represented.
Princess Astrid's extravagant "spontaneity" appears to be a miscalculation of the Belgian diplomacy, which planned her trip. It wrongly imagined that coming to the United States, especially to California, its Princess had to dress like a fool.
Spontaneous gestures and extravagant dresses meant to please public opinion sometimes can backfire. In this case, persons of principle did not like them because they were egalitarian and vulgar, unbefitting to a Princess of the Royal Family. Californians also did not like them, because Princess Astrid implicitly shows that she thinks all of us wear crazy clothing. The photo below shows quite the opposite...
Don't be extravagant.
