Do dress your children accordingly for ceremonies
Above left you see Viscount Lynley, son of the late Princess Margaret, the sister of Queen Elizabeth. At his side are Samuel and Arthur, the sons of his sister Lady Sarah; some steps behind him are his daughter Margarita and his son Charles. They are arriving at the ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of the Viscount's grandmother, the Queen Mother, last April.
We see that the three boys are wearing navy suits, white shirts and ties, and dress shoes, which is precisely what is appropriate for light mourning, such as the anniversary of a death.
When parents talk about teaching their children good manners and wearing appropriate dress for different occasions, they sometimes forget that the best way to teach them is not to make them read a book on these topics. Rather, they should make them put these good norms into practice. When your children accompany you to ceremonies, make sure they are dressed appropriately and behave properly. This is the best way to teach them. Then, throughout their lives they will know exactly what to do in similar situations, without the need to rush to check a book of norms.
Do dress your children accordingly for ceremonies.
