RUSSIA, SOURCE OF LIES & DISHONOR -
As we enter the sixth month of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I offer my reader an overview of the lies and dishonorable behavior communist Russia has shown.
Besides its war crimes and psychological warfare maneuvers, alongside its military onslaught, let me set out what I consider an outrage to any person still sensitive to honor and truth.
1. Supporting the Independence of the Donetsk & Luhansk
One of the reasons Putin gave to invade Ukraine was to support the independence of two provinces of the Donbas – Donetsk and Luhansk – because they wanted to be set free from “Ukrainian oppression” and to adhere to their good ally Russia.

In the first phase of the invasion Putin’s army targeted all of Ukraine. This backfired because of the strong opposition of the population. The Red Army retreated and changed its strategy. It concentrated on the Donbas territory in East Ukraine. Now, after a great part of the main cities of the Donbas have been razed to the ground, the Russians have announced that they will again target all of Ukraine – and many other places. Indeed, on the new goals of the Ukrainian invasion Serghei Lavrov declared in an interview: "It is no longer just Donetsk and Luhansk but also Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and many other territories. And this is a continuous, coherent and insistent process." (L'Osservatore Romano, July 21, 2022, p. 1) An arrogant statement that does not exclude the invasion of Moldavia, Finland or even Poland after their expected domination of Ukraine.
In its military action in the Donbas territory the Red Army would supposedly count on the support of its alleged allies, the separatists.
Well, for the last three months the invaders have been destroying the larger cities of that area. The case of the port city of Mariulpol is paradigmatic. The city was razed to the ground and the population decimated or deported to Russia as prisoners of war. Not to omit that civil targets in this area like residences, supermarkets, train stations and schools were destroyed by Russian missiles without any consideration for the fact that the people in these places present no military danger for the invaders.
This scorched earth policy adopted by the communists in the Donbas seems better suited for dealing with incorrigible enemies than with the “good allies” of Russia. Where were the populations of separatists who purportedly were oppressed by the Ukrainian government and longing for Russian liberation? They did not appear throughout the takeover of Mariulpol nor have they appeared so far in other large cities.

If the authentic separatist populations indeed existed, they should have been displaying their joy at their liberation and the world would know the leaders of such an important political movement. Those leaders would be Slavic duplicates of Nelson Mandella. I am sure that the “woke” Western media would give those separatist leaders a glorious welcome. Perhaps one of them would even be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. But they did not appear…
So, the absence an expressive movement of separatism in Eastern Ukraine leads me to strongly suspect that the previous rebels in the Donbas were Russian agents who had infiltrated those provinces, with few Ukrainian adherents. Their action would serve to create a pretext for the present-day invasion.
What surfaces in this whole process are Russian lies.
2. The grain crisis
Ukraine is a great producer of grain. Its main route for exportation starts at the Black Sea, continues to the Mediterranean, where it reaches Northern Africa and Southern Europe; then the route crosses the Red Sea to reach the Indian Ocean that washes over the East coast of Africa. Its main customers are the countries of Africa.
Since the beginning of the war on February 24, 2022, the Ukrainian grain in its warehouses earmarked for export is around 25 million tons. The Russian navy has been blocking Ukrainian ships to leave their ports and, therefore, it is preventing these grains from reaching the Mediterranean.
The countries of Africa, which should have receive the grain, are now suffering either serious food shortages or famine. European countries that also should have benefited from these grain exports have seen skyrocketing food prices.
The international community is applying humanitarian pressure on Russia to allow these grains to pass through the Black Sea. Until some days ago there was no solution. In the meantime Turkey entered the picture trying to mediate an accord. It offered Constantinople to host negotiations.
The first round was unsuccessful. At the end of the second round, an agreement was reached on July 22 signed by both Ukraine and Russia, which allows grains to pass through the Black Sea. The agreement was witnessed by Turkey and the United Nations, whose secretary António Guterres was present at the table.

When the agreement was reached, the world gave a long sigh of relief because the situation in Africa has become untenable.
The sigh was shortlived. The nightmare resumed. Hours after the signature, Russia bombarded the grain silos in the port of Odessa, the most important on the Ukrainian coast. An enormous international reaction rose up in the face of such blatant disregard of the signature given shortly before violating all conventional rules endorsed by civilized nations and a flagrant aggression to a civil target, which is what characterizes a war crime.
The British Intelligence Service confirmed that the attack of Russian missiles damaged the port and grain silos. Shamelessly, the Russians affirmed that, no, the targets were military not civil. Another lie.
On July 25, Lavrov, affirmed that the text signed in Constantinople "binds the Secretary-General of the United Nations to initiate the process, persuading the Western countries to revoke all restrictions" imposed on the export of Russian wheat. (L’Osservatore Romano, July 25, 2022, p. 2). This statement leaves a door open for the Russian government to keep the agreement signed in Turkey only if the West ends its sanctions against the exportation of Russian grain.
Yesterday, new bombardments were made against Odessa’s port.
This is the situation when I write these lines.
Once again, the conclusion surfaces: Communist Russia reveals itself to have no honor in keeping its word signed in a public treatise; further, it has no consideration for the starvation of the people in several countries in Africa.
No honor in keeping its word; no concern for poor populations that are starving, oppression against a much weaker country, added to lies, lies and more lies.
This should come as no surprise: communists have neither honor nor morals.
