What Is China Hiding?
Authorities are actively suppressing information.
Pictures like this one show how the August 26 mud tsunami hit populated places.
Within hours of the flooding, videos filmed by residents of the border town on the Tibetan side began circulating on Chinese social media platforms. They showed submerged homes, collapsed infrastructure, and frantic attempts to rescue trapped villagers. The footage was widely shared on WeChat and other networks – until it abruptly disappeared.
Multiple Tibetan users reported that their posts were deleted, their accounts temporarily restricted, and they received warnings that sharing “unverified disaster information” violated platform regulations.
Some were told that posting images of damage or casualties constituted “spreading rumors” and could lead to legal consequences.

Underground Church Still Living…
I read with joy that the Chinese Catholic Underground Church did not fall into the Vatican/CCP trap. Indeed, since Benedict XVI's betrayal ordering their members to join the communist Patriotic Association, those brave Catholics were placed in a dilemma: either publicly disobey Rome or submit to the communist authorities. Francis and Leo XIV continued with the same policy.
Now, this article below reports that the Catholic Underground Church in China continues to live with their secret Bishops. It is the correct thing to do: to consecrate them in secret to preserve the Faith of those Catholics, not with fanfare and public rebellion, like we saw another organization do recently…

Following the Vatican’s secret deal with China, Catholic bishops are being secretly consecrated to serve the Underground Church in the country, according to new details shared by a fellow underground bishop.
Shortly after the signing of the Vatican’s secret deal with China in 2018, Catholics in the Underground Church professed to feeling betrayed. AsiaNews – a site that regularly documents the abductions and torturing of underground Catholics – reported that “Underground Catholics bitterly suspect that the Vatican has abandoned them.”
Since then, the Chinese government’s process of Sinicization – by which China subverts religions to the control of the Communist state – has proliferated and persecution of the Underground Church loyal to Rome has also increased.
“It is the government that China’s Catholics today resist, not their fellow faithful,” said an un-named Chinese bishop as part of a detailed analysis published recently by Catholic World Report.
The Sino-Vatican deal concerning the appointment of bishops has remained secret, although it is widely understood to allow the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to select its own bishops. The Pope apparently maintains a veto power although in practice it is the CCP which regularly appears to have control.

Was Faith in Ireland Superstitious?

Regarding the letter of your correspondent NM, I would make the following points.
He asks if the Faith of the Irish was genuine or if it was based on superstition. I can assure him it was overwhelmingly genuine. Our faith was banned completely for 135 years by a Protestant Parliament in Ireland. During that time the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass had to be offered secretly, in lonely rural places on what became known as Mass Rocks. The Priests risked their lives.
Our children had to be educated in secret also, in hedgerows, in what became known as hedge schools. From 1695 until 1829. Our young men went off to Spain and France to study for the Priesthood and then had to be smuggled back into the country mainly in Co. Kerry in the Southwest, far from the prying eyes of the authorities. Finally, God sent us a real leader, Daniel O'Connell, who led a campaign to have the penal laws repealed and this happened after the Irish people rallied around this cause in 1829.
The reasons for the decline in the Faith in Ireland are many. I think the main cause was the relaxation in discipline which had come about even before Vatican II. Up to the 1940s the Church had imposed strict discipline on the faithful in many ways. The Nuns from the many convents around the country ensured the girls behaved, and the Priests and Christian Brothers fulfilled a similar function regarding the boys.
In Confessions the Priests ensured the laws of God were obeyed and wives and husbands observed their duties. Sermons on Sundays were about purity, chastity, modesty, and the duty of parents to discipline their children. The dangers of dance halls and cinema and bad books were also stressed. In schools children were taught respect for authority and respect for each other. We had to work hard as daily examinations in various subjects were conducted.
I think the advent of Liberalism and the consequent relaxation of discipline left us open to the temptations of the evil one with the results we see today.
I cannot comment on the behavior of Irish priests in England or the situation of Catholics in Japan as I have no knowledge of either. As a woman of only a very modest intellect I would not dare comment on the Encyclical of any Holy Father.

I’m 86 and multi-handicapped. My-my! How awfully sad this has become!. I’m relatively sure even at your youthful age, you must have seen the horribly and nightmarish level of what is presented as a Christian Church.
It is a satanic joke from anyone who is inclined to even suggest they [its members] are Christian or Catholic at that. What an insult! And that’s meant to be a compliment.
They should be arrested for obscenity!
