Filioque, Gen Z & Underground Church
Omitting the Filioque
TIA,
In an ecumenical ceremony that took place on September 14, 2025 in St. Paul Outside-the-Walls, Pope Leo XIV omitted the Filioque in the recitation of the Creed.
As we know, among the many points of disagreement the Western Schism in the 11th century disputed the Filioque, which in Latin means “and from the Son.” This dispute is because the Schismatics of Byzantium denied that the Holy Spirit proceeded “from the Father and from the Son.” They affirmed the Holy Spirit proceeded only from the Father. An entire branch of the Byzantine Schismatics profess the same heresy.
So, when Pope Leo XIV omits the Filioque, he is advancing an important change in the articles of the Faith, which normally is called a heresy.

Your Take on the New Catholics?
Good morning TIA,
Salve Maria!
I was curious if you could comment on the alleged rise in Gen Z Catholics being reported today. I’ve seen several articles and videos describing a clear rise among the men and perhaps a smaller rise in women.
Do you believe this phenomenon is accurately being portrayed? Do you believe these young men are “authentic” in their faith? Are they just using the faith as a means to an end for their perceived grievances with the current state of affairs?
News on this topic: here, here, here and here
Thank you,
N.B.
TIA responds:
Good morning N.B.,
Thank you for your questions. We will try to answer them.
As you know we are Catholics and as such we do not believe there is any other religion that is pleasing to God, but the Catholic Church.
With this presupposition, we are certain that God is constantly calling His creatures to the right path, that is, to the Catholic Church so that each one will become the “image and likeness” of Him that he or she was meant to be. Thus, the new generations, be they Gen Z or Millennials, must receive the necessary graces to become fully Catholic.
Now, the Catholic Church for many decades has been usurped by Progressivism – the worst possible enemy of the Church. Progressivism preaches that the world is wonderful and Catholics should adapt to it and be tolerant toward everything the world does. It also preaches that all religions are true and lead to God. These statements are precisely the opposite of what Catholic doctrine has always taught.
With this fact – the Progressivism takeover of the Catholic Church – the use of the name Catholic became ambiguous. We need to clarify who is who.
Those youth who are attracted to the progressivist doctrine are revealing they are progressivists, not actually Catholics.
Many youth, however, are receiving graces to be authentic Catholics and follow what the Church always taught.
Regarding the latter type, we have the obligation to help them to find the fountain of pure water, which is Catholic doctrine in its full amplitude: dogmatic, moral, liturgical etc.
So, here you have a distinction that you may apply to each case of the Gen Z or Millennials who are leaning toward “being Catholic.” You have to distinguish between those who tend toward Progressivism and those who actually lean toward Catholicism,
By giving you the criteria to evaluate the conversions, we give you more than an opinion on this or that case.
Cordially,

Leo XIV Closes Underground Dioceses in China
Dear TIA,
Following symptoms that Leo XIV has manifested in the last months, very recently he closed two Dioceses of underground Bishops who refused to unite with the official communist-controlled “Catholic Church.” The Pope closed those Dioceses and erected a new one entirely in agreement with the Chinese Communist Regime.
This is what the “conservative” Leo XIV did…
Thank you for the constant updates your site gives us on the Underground Church in China.

Pope Leo approves reordering of Chinese dioceses,
appoints new bishops
Pope Leo XIV has suppressed two dioceses in mainland China, and erected a new diocese with a new bishop, the Vatican announced September 10, a move suggesting a new level of cooperation between China and the Vatican on mainland Church affairs.
The announcement represents the first occasion under Pope Leo in which the territory of mainland Chinese dioceses has been altered to reflect civil jurisdictions, and one of the first times such alterations have received papal approval since the 2018 Provisional Agreement between the Vatican and China on the appointment of bishops, signaling a possible renewed level of cooperation between Rome and Beijing.
Several previous instances have seen Chinese state authorities attempt to invalidly create and suppress dioceses without papal involvement.
TThe Vatican press office announced Wednesday that the pope had “decided to suppress the dioceses of Xuanhua and Xiwanzi,” which had been erected in 1946, and “at the same time to erect the new Diocese of Zhangjiakou, suffragan of Beijing,” in order to “promote the pastoral care of the Lord’s flock and to attend more effectively to its spiritual good.”
Unmentioned in the official announcement is the future of the two bishops of the now-suppressed dioceses, both of whom were members of the underground Church in China, and refused to join the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, the state-sponsored body which oversees sanctioned Catholic practice in the country.
According to reports, Bishop Augustine Cui Tai of Xuanhua, 75, who has been subject to several rounds of state sanction, including house arrest, is now identified as “retired,” while Bishop Joseph Ma Yanen of Xiwanzi has been appointed as auxiliary bishop of the new Diocese of Zhangjiakou./font>

His argument is quite compelling since it sets aside politics and focus on religious principles. No one can be part of an organization that in its agenda plans to do evil – abortion – as it is the case of the Democratic Party.
He also applies the same censure to Freemasonry, which has many anti-Catholic goals.
Finally, someone has the courage to speak the truth from the pulpit.
