Do wear family heirloom jewelry
Above we see Princess Charlotte of Wales, appropriately dressed in full black mourning attire at the funeral of her great-grandmother Queen Elisabeth II. Prominently displayed on the left side of her coat is a horseshoe diamond and pearl brooch, a gift to the Princess from the late Queen, who had a great fondness for all things equestrian. The brooch originally belonged to the Queen Mother – see first row below – who gave it to her daughter, Queen Elizabeth, before her death. The Queen in turn gave it to her great-granddaughter, Princess Charlotte.
Even though it is not in vogue for the modern girl to wear a brooch, Princess Charlotte ignored the foolish fads and proudly wore the symbolic piece as a loving tribute to her grandmother.
Doing this, the Princess was following the example of her Royal Family, which often hands down jewelry pieces from one generation to another. This is, for example, the case of the famous Maple Leaf Brooch that can be seen worn by four generations of Royal Ladies, second row. In the third row, we see the Queen Mother and her daughter Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Teck Flower Brooch. And, at the funeral of the Queen, above, Princess Katherine chose to wear the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings she received from Elizabeth II as a sign of her appreciation.
The young Royal Princess paid tribute again to her late ‘Gan-Gan,’ Queen Elizabeth II, at the Trooping the Color 2025, wearing the symbolic horseshoe brooch again on an aquamarine dress, as seen below.
Perhaps with these gestures, the popular daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales can revive this good custom of wearing brooches, especially ones that have a rich family significance.
