A curious 'conservative' priest in Brazil
Fr. Francisco de Assis is the parish priest of St. Bernadette Church in Brasilia. With his scatterbrained personality, he keeps himself and his parishioners busy with activities that do not seem fitting with his pastoral duties.Indeed, we see him above jet-skiing at Brasilia's Lake; below first and second rows, he is being boat-towed in an inner-tube; in the fourth row he is lifting vases and jumping for the camera. Finally, in the two last rows he plays spider-man for the youth at their spiritual retreat...
All them are, doubtlessly, very spiritual initiatives...
When some parishioners complain about his "originality," he disregards and dismisses them with profanities.
Nonetheless, the auxiliary Bishop of Brasilia, Denilson Geraldo, is very pleased with the activities of Fr. Assis.
When we compare these antics with the lives of the Saints, Fr. Assis looks like a worldly clown, to say the least. Actually, he is not mainly a clown, but rather one of the fruits of the "adaptation of the Church to the modern world," the motto of Vatican II.
