Pagan goddess at Our Lady Aparecida Sanctuary

October 12 is the Feast Day of Our Lady Aparecida, Patroness of Brazil, declared Queen of Brazil by St. Pius X. On October 5, 2013, the third day of the novena before the Feast, the rector of the Basilica of Our Lady Aparecida Sanctuary, authorized a statue of the goddess Deki, or Deci, to enter the Basilica in solemn procession and be offered to the veneration of the faithful, above.

According to Greek mythology, Deki is the daughter of Zeus and Themis, and is considered the goddess of justice (click here).

The rector of the Sanctuary is Fr. Domingos Savio da SIlva (first row below right), who is under the authority of Auxiliary Bishop Darci Jose Nicioli (left), and Cardinal Raymundo Damasceno, Archbishop of Aparecida (center).

This promotion of idolatry in one of the most important Marian Sanctuaries of the world has raised general indignation among the faithful.
