Archbishop Tettamanzi giving a reliquary to schismatic Alexis II

Archbishop of Milan gives relics to the Schismatics

October 2, 2006 - Representing Benedict XVI on a visit to Moscow, Card. Dionigi Tettamanzi, Archbishop of Milan, gives a silver reliquary to Russian Schismatic patriarch Alexis II, above. The reliquary contains relics of St. Nazario, St. Marcellina, and other martyrs, placed there in the 4th century by St. Ambrose when he was Archbishop of Milan.

"Common worship of these martyrs will unite us and our two churches in common prayer," the Cardinal said. Tettamanzi also offered to make St. Anthony Church in Milan available for use by the Russian Schismatics until another one is turned over permanently to them.

In return for these inadmissible concessions, Alexis did nothing but complain about Catholic proselytism in Russia and Ukraine.

Tettamanzi expressed regret for the Catholic missionary effort and affirmed that such activity was “insulting” to the Schismatics and “not always proper from an ecumenical viewpoint.”

St. Ambrose made an unrelenting fight against the Arian heretics of his day. Today his successor as Archibshop of Milan ignores the doctrinal errors of the Schismatics and pretends that union can be achieved without taking these errors into consideration.
