Vatican Masons & Well Dressed on Hot Campus

More Masons at the Vatican

Dear TIA,

By naming another Mason to the Vatican Leo XIV continues “a tradition” of the Conciliar Popes to have good relations with Freemasonry.

Indeed, John XXIII was mourned by the Mexican Freemasonry; Masonry rewarded JPII; Benedict XVI named Vanderlei Bagnato to the Pontifical Academy of Science; Francis was praised by Masonry several times (here, here, here and here).

Now we have Leo XIV naming Umberto Longo for the Pontifical Committee of Historic Sciences.

Actually, I believe that the Conciliar Church is much closer to Freemasonry than to the Catholic Church…

Read the news report below, please.

Keep up the good work,

     In Christ Jesus,

     E.J.
Leo XIV appoints Freemason to Vatican committee

Pope Leo XIV appointed Professor Umberto Longo to the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences. The speaker argues that Longo has an extensive public connection to Freemasonry, including a 2014 Scottish Rite publication identifying him as “Fratello” (brother), a 2019 appearance at a Grand Oriente d’Italia conference, and a 2022 event where the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite addressed him on camera as “Brother Professor Longo.”

The appointment raises a fundamental question: How does this square with the Catholic Church’s long-standing condemnation of Freemasonry? Church teaching, from Pope Clement XII through Leo XIII to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, has consistently held that Masonic membership is incompatible with Catholic faith. Longo’s public association with Masonic organizations appears to contradict that teaching.

Dressing Well on a Hot Campus

TIA,

Praise be to Our Lord Jesus Christ, and His Mother, Mary!

I would be remiss if I did not begin my inquiry with a salutation to the incredible work which you have performed at Tradition in Action; surely your efforts to promote true Catholicity in today's vastly disordered world do not go unnoticed by the merciful eyes of Our Lady. May she reward your efforts with most beautiful crowns of sanctity in Heaven.

I am a 26-year-old Texan man (re-)entering into University to finish my undergraduate studies. I find myself having been greatly edified by the articles concerning modesty of dress and courtesy of manners on your Web site; however (and perhaps this may be due to some oversight on my own part), I cannot seem to find a comprehensive guide as to what a young man such as myself, in the hot Texas weather, should wear on a daily basis to befit a student at University.

I am aware that many "blind and infatuated worldings" (if I may borrow that old expression) will be dressed most casually, as is all-too-common in this Revolutionary age; it is my intention, not to stand haughtily above them, lording some vain superiority, but rather to set a noble example, in whatever small effort I may, of a true Catholic Counter-revolutionary in this Age of Modernism.

One way in which this task is accomplished is by an example of dress; therefore, it would be most appreciated if you could shed some light on this subject.

May God bless you and keep you!

Frater tuus in Iesu et Maria,

     P.R.

TIA responds:

P.R.,

Salve Maria!

I am a young man, a friend of TIA, who seeks to help other young men with dignity and decorum. TIA has published several articles written on the topic of dressing well which you can find here.

I have written some articles about young men and college here but I can try to answer two of your specific concerns:
    1. I cannot seem to find a comprehensive guide as to what a young man such as myself, in the hot Texas weather, should wear on a daily basis to befit a student at University
Hot weather never stopped men from dressing with dignity and neither should it stop us.

To get started in dignified dress, you may wear a dress shirt, chino pants, and loafers. From here, you should transition to wearing a tie and slacks once you become comfortable. I believe this should be the bare-minimum in dress once a man fully embraces the counter-revolutionary cause.

The jacket can be given up if it is excessively hot and you have to walk across campus multiple times a day. However, it is worth noting, than in the past no professor would be seen without his jacket as it was a mark of his distinguished office If you are spending time working indoors for most of the day at libraries or in study halls with air conditioning, a relaxed sports jacket matching the pants would be an appropriate garb for college.

Orchestra at Texas University 1950s

An small orchestra at Texas A&M University - 1950s

Here you can find pictures of men at Texas A&M University in the 1950s dressed in full suits. It is not clear what time of year these photos were taken, but I imagine some of them fell in the Summertime. We have to remember that before air conditioning and electric fans, men adapted to the weather, and so these students likely developed a tolerance to the heat that allowed them to dress like this for a long period of time.
    2. It is my intention, not to stand haughtily above them, lording some vain superiority, but rather to set a noble example, in whatever small effort I may
The truth you must face in dressing well is that many of your classmates will judge you based on their own biases. Those who scoff at any dignity in customs will probably believe you are lording a "vain superiority" over them as soon as they see you dressing in a dignified manner. However, those that marvel and desire a return to good customs will see you as a courageous example and appreciate your efforts to restore good customs.

Put God above others and you will befriend those who will grow holy with you and leave behind those who would bring you down. Our Lady will remember your good efforts and give you the courage to continue on. You will experience a period of awkwardness as you get used to dressing with dignity. But once you become accustomed to the staring and jests from others, it will cease to bother you an you will move forward with grace and be ready for Our Lady's next call in your life.

     In Maria,

     J.R.
