Holy Kayaking

Dear TIA,

I am not sure whether you already have these photos of Karol Wojtyla in Poland when he was a young priest/bishop.

Wojtyla started and ended his priesthood with young people. As a university chaplain in Krákow, he would take young people hiking and kayaking, saying mass on an upturned kayak.

Always in contact with nature the future pope did not abhor the feminine company in those excursions and camping…

An example to be followed? I doubt it. He disregarded the prudence that Catholic morals teaches us to maintain distance from the opposite sex and avoid occasions of sin. Actually, it is not an occasion of sin to walk the fields with young women in shorts?

Or perhaps I am wrong, since in Poland original sin does not exist. Correct?

Later JPII initiated World Youth Days which took place 10 times during his Pontificate.

1962 Mass & SSPX

Dear TIA,

I attend TLMs, and what I cannot find to my satisfaction is answers to the following points:

There is an abyssal divide between the NOM and TLM, but how is it between the pre-1962 TLM and the 1962 TLM?
Why did FSPPX chose the “updated” 1962 TLM even if they knew who created it?

In 1990 the rage of NOM swapped the land. Actually, the NOM was introduced in about 1970, but the propaganda of the NewChurch was so strong that only very few people noticed. My granny was one, she said the Protestants stole the Church, and she stopped attending the Masses, with exception of funerals of her friends. She prayed the Rosary daily and lived to 96 years of age... while her Church had been gone.

Only some 5 years later, after she had died, the TLM came back, with the FFSPX. Which is great, almost a miracle. I mean - the return of TLM, albeit 1962 version.

The only other option that is here is a Greek-Catholic Mass served in Ancient Slavic. Would surely be fine as well, although the fact that the priests consider John Hus a saint/ martyr is the major reason why we do not approach their Church (https://vkpatriarhat.org/en/).

The fact that is the Mass is (weekly) visited by less than 1 person per 1 thousand, well if you include NOM then probably 1% of a nation of ten million....

So please be so kind and if possible give me answers to my questions above.

Thank you for your message and explanations.

The 1962 Mass made by Msgr. Bugnini prepared the way for the Novus Ordo Mass, also made by him and issued by Paul VI in 1969. You may read why this was so here, here, here, here and here.

The SSPX chose the 1962 Missal to take the middle-of-the-road position, ready to become more progressivist or more traditionalist according to the needs of their policies.

End Times: Eve of Peace or of Antichrist?

As a student of the study of “End Times” as the Venerable Holzhauser calls these present times, I don’t believe we are on the eve of the Anti-christ. Personally, I agree with Desmond Birch's position in his terrific book, Trials, Tribulation and Triumph. To get to the period of peace promised by Our Lady of Fatima, we will pass through what Desmond calls this “Minor Chastisement” (“Major Chastisement” being the Antichrist).

I thought it would be useful to understand what Scripture and Oral Tradition and key Catholic Prophecies teach regarding the time of the Anti-christ. So, I prepared a list as a starting point and hope you would edit/add to it.

Three Days of Darkness with most of mankind dead
Period of Peace promised by Our Lady of Fatima must occur
The reestablishment of the Holy Roman Empire (worldwide)
The vast majority of mankind is united under the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church
Reign of the Great Monarch Henri V as emperor
St. Peter and Paul will appear and anoint/select a Pope
Reign of the Holy, Angelic Pope. It is prophesized that he will perform miracles.
The Greatest Church Council to complete mankind's understanding of Tradition/Revelation
The possibility that St. John the Evangelist will return to Earth to help rally the Catholic Bishops to support the Angelic, Holy Pope
The establishment of 10 Kingdoms within the empire
The construction is completed of the Third Temple of Jerusalem
The Kingdom of Israel is established again
The Great Monarch or his successor lays down his crown and scepter at Mt. Olivet and dies.
This is the end of the Holy Roman Empire.
The False Prophet arrives announcing the coming of the Antichrist
The “falling away” or great apostasy across the entire Catholic Church ensues
During the Reign of the Antichrist, Enoch and Elias will return to Earth

If I am right, I do not believe any of these things (and possibly more) have not occurred. I am concerned that many devout Roman Catholics are ignorant and fearful as a result that the end of the world is near. We need hope, not despair. It saddens me that Catholics are unprepared to accept the “White” and “Red” martyrdom. Like those outside the Church, they forget the “Last Four Things” and do not see the “Eternal Prize”. This is one reason why I pray the Rosary (all 15 decades). God help us.
