Germany’s Romantic Rhine & Rothenburg
Dear TIA,
I ran across this video today. It is a trip along the Rhine and they get off the boat and tour some of the castles. I thought you might enjoy watching it. It is about 25 minutes long.
God bless,

Marriage in an SSPX Chapel
TIA,
Please forgive me if you have addressed this, I did a search and did not find anything.
Years ago, my wife and I were married in an SSPX church. I believe we both had the proper intentions, stated our vows properly, had witnesses, etc. As years went by, my wife read things on the internet that convinced her our marriage is invalid due to the marriage in an SSPX church.
I was wanting to know your opinion on SSPX marriages.
Thanks,
G.W.
TIA responds:
G.W.,
We believe that the marriages celebrated at SSPX chapels are valid, as well the other Sacraments administered by their Bishops and priests.
Although in these times of confusion there have been many doubts about the validity of orders received by some Bishops and priests, we believe this is not the case with regard to those belonging to the Society of St. Pius X.
Spreading doubts on this topic is one of the disservices that sede-vacantists are causing for the Church.
For the stability of your marriage, we would suggest that you to dissuade your wife from reading their material.
Cordially,

Advice on Changing Rites
Dear TIA,
I am a Syro-Malabar Catholic. For me, it seems like the post-Vatican reforms have considerably changed our liturgical rite as well. I don’t even know for sure if we have/had a traditional liturgy.
There was an edition in 1962 (east Syriac) which was a restored one. It did not last long. Then from 1968, the liturgy was vernacularized (Malayalam). Before 1962 our Rite was pretty much like the Tridentine Mass in vestments and total outlook. So, in order to get rid of this Latinization," they restored the Mass in 1962. They claim the 1962 Missal is a restoration of the pre-1599 Missal. This, in my opinion, is not an organic development. Also, one of the important things I advocate for is receiving the Eucharist on tongue. But I am being denied this right recently based on Eastern theological differences.
I want to live the rest of my life attending a traditional liturgy. But according to my understanding, God chose the Rite for me. So when it is God’s will to stay true to the rite one was born into, it seems almost impossible as I look more into the matter. It seems to me that the current liturgy we have is not a handed-down liturgy. I have been searching books and asking different people about this matter. Since books are not readily available for me on these matters and those pertaining to this subject are usually kept in seminaries and since I am not a seminarian, I do not have access to them.
What are some solutions? I am also considering changing my rite. Would that be a good idea? Please guide me on how I need to proceed.
Thank you.
A.L.
TIA responds:
Dear A.L.,
After Vatican II, unfortunately the Holy See is striving to change the many Catholic Rites to adapt them to Progressivism. We have followed from a distance the changes made in the Maronite, Melchite, Armenian and Ukrainian Rites. The changes follow the same lines – breaking the solemnity of the ceremony, translation of the texts into the vernacular, introduction of women on the altar as lectors and acolytes, putting dialogue between the celebrant and the parishioners in parts of the Mass, participation of the laity in the Offertory procession, inserting embraces and kisses of peace to give am air of festivity, etc.
So, it does not surprise us to know that the same is occurring in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Rite.
Our suggestion for you is to read The Theological and Moral Implications of the New Ordo Missae, which is the best book we know on this matter explaining the principal changes made in the Latin Rite Mass. Since the changes in the Tridentine Mass are the model for the changes being made in the other 22 Catholic Rites, you will have the elements to know the spirit of the changes, which will allow you to analyze them in your Syro-Malabar Rite.
Regarding changing Rites, in principle and in normal times, the rule of the Church is to avoid doing so. However, in times of general apostasy like the ones in which we live, the salvation of the soul must be the supreme law – salus populi suprema lex esto. Therefore, you may change rites and attend the Mass in a Catholic Rite that still follows the immutable Catholic doctrine.
