Triumph over the Rosary
People Commenting
TIA,

A retired Novus Ordo priest for whom I have immense respect told me that "many of today's Catholics don't even know about the Rosary." Then recently there was a story on a Traditional' Catholic website that showed upwards to 500,000 people attending a Rosary rally at the Polo Field in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in 1961. This story caught my eye because I remembered being at that rally with my parents thanks to the urging of my aunt, a Dominican nun who had such true devotion to the Holy Rosary that she made thousands of them during her spare time. It was also reported in the same story that, 50 years later, they had difficulty drawing 1,000 people to a Rosary rally ignored by the Archbishop of San Francisco.

Sister Lucy told Fr. Fuentes in 1956 that Our Lady said to her cousins as well as herself that God is giving two last remedies to the world. These are the Holy Rosary and Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These are the last two remedies, which signify that there will be no others. She also said, "Father, the Most Holy Virgin is very sad because no one has paid any attention to her message, neither the good nor the bad." Can we even imagine how she feels today over 50 years later?

Vatican II altered the Catholic Church's teaching on Our Lady, making not one reference at all to her Most Holy Rosary. Modernists and sadly many traditional Catholics believe that Fatima is only a 'private revelation' and, therefore, you are under no obligation to believe it: They say: "Don't worry about it, the Age of Revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle St John the Evangelist."

Why do so many choose to ignore the Blessed Virgin when she offers us her help?

Cabaret Church
People Commenting
TIA,

Regarding your posting "Where is this cabaret church?", I would like to inform you that the event took place in the city of Lotz, Poland. The Prelate is Archbishop Wladyslaw Ziolek of Lotz, and the piece being played is named: "Karol Wojtyla converts street women."

Is Ratzinger Adoptionist?
People Commenting
Sir,

My name is M.M., I live in Berlin, Germany.

I have one question:

Did Joseph Ratzinger in any of his books advocate the so-called theory of "Adoption" in the sense, that Jesus was a human being, then adopted by God? If so, could you please give me the bibliographic reference.

On the intercession of St. Norbert, yours,

     M.M.

The Editor responds:

Mr. M.M.,

What Joseph Ratzinger thinks on the topic that interests you would be in his work The Catholic Faith Yesterday and Today, part II: "I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord."

I have its French translation for my perusal. You may easily acquire the German original Einführung in das Christentum, whose first edition was published by Kösel-Verlag KG, München, 1968.

Pray to St. Philomena
People Commenting
Dear TIA,

Salve Maria!

Can you possibly write to the reader who asked for prayers for their very sick 4-year-old and tell them to pray to Saint Philomena? She loves to cure children; I've seen her cure them so many times.

I will be happy to mail them a book about her and a bottle of blessed oil, blessed chaplet and blessed cord from her Shrine if they would give me their mailing address.

Thank you.

     In Maria,

Edifying History
People Commenting
Dear TIA

Your correspondent JL draws our attention to the establishment of Catholic Maryland under the leadership of the Calvert family. May I also draw attention to a book, which is available to read on-line on this very subject. It is entitled Old Catholic Maryland and its early Jesuit Missionaries, published in 1889 and authored by Reverend William P. Treacy. It is a truly wonderful book and I thank JL for bringing this glorious part of our Catholic history to wider attention.

Today, we need all the inspiration we can get, and our Catholic Missionary Priests and Sisters can certainly provide it. When we read of their zeal for souls, their love of martyrdom, their courage in working among savage peoples and above all, their love of the True Faith, we can at the same time, feel proud of such a heritage and humble at our own weakness.

These histories are also so inspiring for children and I urge any Catholic educators who are familiar with TIA to bring such stories to the attention of the children in their care.

     Yours faithfully

     C.P., Ireland.

The Catechism in Examples
People Commenting
Dear Dr. Horvat:

I regret I haven't even thought of Googling this site long before this.

My father had the 5 volumes of Fr. Chisholm's The Catechism in Examples, which I read as a young child over and over again. It has taught me extensively the morals, charity and faith by many examples I still remember reading from childhood ... and I'm now 80 years old. Now, my father is long gone, and I have only Vol. 3, Charity:The Commandments.

My daughter and I were talking about how to teach obedience to her children and help prepare her son, age 7, for First Communion. Then the thought of the book I still have popped into my head and I wondered, Why haven't I looked it up on the computer? I am so very happy that I found a site where all 5 volumes could be obtained. They were a wonderful teaching instrument when we were growing up in our large family. They should be in all Catholic schools. My grandson goes to a parish school in St. Augustine, FL but they do not teach Catechism in schools. Students are required to register in their respective family churches for CCD. My, times have certainly changed... because I still remember being taught catechism in school till the 8th grade.

I would like to purchase the 5 Volumes of 'The Catechism in Examples' so as not to break up a set. Would this be possible? If so, please reply and the price of each book plus shipping, and I will send out a check immediately.

I thank you so very much.

     H.H.

Dr. Horvat responds:

Dear Mrs. H.H.,

I am glad you recalled that good collection in time to help your daughter teach catechism to her children. As you noted, parents can no longer depend on Catholic schools to teach catechism and good doctrine. Even in the CCD classes, the lessons and examples set out by Fr. Chisholm are absent; instead, there is a stress on new social doctrine, ecumenism and comparative religions. Sometimes children leave eight years of CCD classes without knowing their basic prayers or the Ten Commandments.

We do not carry the five-volume set by Fr. Chrisholm. However, the volumes are available online at Catechetics Online.

There are also various volumes available on Amazon, and it appears you could amass the collection one by one there.

I hope this will be of some help to you and your daughter.

     Cordially,

     Marian T. Horvat
