Do you know what irks me? When bishops put the "death penalty" in the same sentence with the killing of unborn children.

Murderers have had a trial, unborn children have NOT. Plus, only a handful of murderers are put to death every year in the United States, but about 1.3 MILLION unborn children are put to death every year, with many suffering excruciating pain, whereas murderers are tranquilized and feel NO pain. So PLEASE bishops, DO NOT equate the two. One other little fact - the death penalty is NOT against Catholic Doctrine.

Why are the bishops making a simple thing so complicated? All they had to say was: "Do not vote for anyone who supports the killing of unborn children, otherwise YOU will be a party to those same killings." Why all the gobbledegook?

They should also say that there is one party that supports the destruction of unborn children - it's in their party platform - and the other major party's platform states, "the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution, and we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions."

Also, since bishops are so worried about their tax status, they should say, "If you do not know which party supports baby killing and which does not, it's very easy to find out and we urge you to do so - lives depend on it."

I am just now becoming more aware of the traditionalist movement. I am a post Vatican II (born 1958) multi-generation Italian Catholic raised in California.

I could use some insight. What are the objectives and goals of this movement or mission? My own experience and current level of intellectual and spiritual maturity does not help me to see an urgent need to look to the pre-Vatican II Church. On the contrary, I see horrendous mistakes made by the early Church that hurt people and led to serious division.

Is it not true that the Church continues to grow in knowledge and wisdom and yet maintains truth through the Holy Spirit? Should we not give full trust to that living guidance even if it leads us to knowledge that challenges our thinking to the point of discomfort?

Unfortunately I view the traditionalist movement as a fearful response to current world conditions. Our Lord promised that no evil could ever stop the coming of the Kingdom.

Where is the Love? The Faith?

The Catholic Faith is summarized in the Creed we profess. It is surprising that you did not remember that. Any growth in the Church that does not follow the same sense and the same truths of the previous defined doctrines is not a progress, but an illness.

So, if someone denies the past of the Catholic Church and is ashamed of it, as you do, and pretends that he is following the Holy Spirit, he is wrong. This spirit is not holy.

What is love? Love of God is to defend the Mystical Body of Christ as He instituted and molded it throughout the centuries. It is a necessary consequence of the First Commandment. Love is also to try to bring our neighbors to the right path that they abandoned, misled by Modernist and Progressivist novelties. This is the true love Our Lord taught us to have.

Our aim, then, is to defend the Catholic Faith and the Catholic Church.

We believe that to simply say that evil will never prevail implying that we need do nothing to fight against it, is to play the fifth column of the enemy inside the Church.

I came across on your site an entry on "how to address" a patriarch from "N. A. T., MJC"

Written Address: His Beatitude, the Most Reverend Michael Cardinal Sabbah, Patriarch of Jerusalem.

You note that you were going to correct your article, but I would encourage you not to do that.

The double courtesy title, "His Beatitude, the Most Reverend" is not the traditional form and here's why: a courtesy title describes a person: the person is a most reverend person, or right reverend person, a beatific person (your beatitude), or an eminent person (your eminence).

The practice in courtesy titles is to address with only the highest, since the higher outranks the lower.

So Michael Sabbah was probably once a "the Most Reverend Bishop" but now that he's a Cardinal he is elevated to singly a "Beatitude,

Also I would note that while the Patriarch of Jerusalem is addressed as "your Beatitude", traditionally the Patriarch of Lisbon is 'your Eminence." Fortunately one doesn't have to write letters to these clerics too often.
