Is America Losing the Will to Survive?

Toby Westerman

Every nation must believe in itself in order to survive the forces seeking to destroy it. The self-respect needed for self-preservation is being stripped from the American people by a relentless assault upon American policies and actions, both past and present.

The danger to America is substantial, leading influential best-selling author and speaker Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Robert "Buzz" Patterson to openly question if the U.S. has "lost the political will" to survive.

Lt. Colonel Robert Patterson

Patterson discusses America's refusal to believe in a world war with Islamic terrorism
In an exclusive interview with International News Analysis, Patterson stated that America is a "divided country," with politicians and academics launching cultural attacks against the U.S. This anti-American elite denies that the United States is in a world war with terror, and portrays Iraq as merely an isolated conflict.

"Al Qaeda is in 80 countries… and Iraq is just one battlefield in a world-wide conflict," Patterson told INA.

Patterson has authored two New York Times best sellers, Dereliction of Duty: How Bill Clinton Compromised America's National Security, and Reckless Disregard: How Liberal Democrats Undercut Our Military, Endanger Our Soldiers, and Jeopardize Our Security.

Patterson's latest book, due to be released shortly, is entitled War Crimes: The Left's Campaign to Eliminate the Military and Lose the War on Terror. Patterson is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles-based David Horowitz Freedom Center, an organization devoted to the preservation of American constitutional freedoms.

"We won WWII and the Cold War," but in view of the actions of many politicians in Washington, "all bets are off whether we can see the war on terror through to a successful conclusion," Patterson soberly observed.

"I don't think most Americans believe we are at war, but, in reality, Iraq is only one battlefield in a global struggle with the forces of terror, extending from Syria to the Philippines and Indonesia," Patterson declared.

"The reason we are suffering casualties is that we are taking the war to the enemy - and winning," responded Patterson in answer to those who cite the growing casualty lists from Iraq.

Since the 1960s, a significant number of Americans believe that no war is worth fighting, giving those hostile to America an important advantage, Patterson observed.

Although U.S. troops continue to be successful against insurgent terror groups in Iraq, many U.S. fighting service personnel have confided to Patterson individually, through email, or by phone that they are deeply worried that what they have gained in combat will be compromised by "the politicians in Washington."

Although insurgent forces are inferior to U.S. troops in technique and weaponry, our opponents know that, as was the case with Vietnam, certain U.S. politicians are willing to concede defeat because they "lack the political will" to persevere in the fight, Patterson believes.

If the U.S. military leaves before a stabile Iraqi government is able to take over the fight, the result would be "like pouring gasoline on an open fire," Patterson stated. A militant Islamic government could come to power, and the forces of terror around the world would be emboldened to strike hard at the U.S. homeland, leaving no man, woman, or child safe.

America is at the point of coming to a decision which will affect the lives of everyone in the U.S. Beginning the first week of January 2007, critics of the war on terror have the power in Washington, D.C. to force their will on U.S. policy in Iraq.

The liberal media refers to a "war-weary America," but no such fatigue is noted in radical Islam. The warriors of militant Islam are continually praised for their sacrifices in the name of Allah, but, in the U.S., Patterson notes, the left is again attempting to portray U.S. troops as war criminals, as was done during the Vietnam conflict.

Patterson urges all Americans to continue to support the troops, directly express gratitude for the job being done by U.S. military personnel whenever possible, and, above all, "do not be worn down" by the continued barrage of anti-American propaganda from the leftist media.

The United States is at war, whether the left acknowledges the fact or not. America must rally behind its troops, and demand the defeat of those seeking to destroy us.

There is no middle ground.
