Terri Schiavo and the Fight for Life
There is the Resurrection

Toby Westerman

The culture of death is international in scope, and universally regards human life as an accident of biological forces. In most of the world, the culture of death goes by the name "Socialism" or, in more virulent cases, "Communism." In the U.S., the term "liberalism" is usually invoked.

In all cases, the culture of death is promoted by various types of doctrinaire "experts" who share the values of the culture of death.

In America, one of the most notable victims of the culture of death and its promoters is Terri Schiavo, who, at this writing, clings precariously to life. No other event in American society has demonstrated the power and determination of the culture of death as has the case of Terri Schiavo.

Terri is not in a "persistent vegetative state," although the media pound away with that misinformation. Terri's estranged husband, Michael Schiavo, is Terri's guardian, and an open adulterer, although the media do not use the term. He has also fathered two children by the "other" woman.

Michael Schiavo certainly has little interest in Terri's recovery, but it is this man to whom the judges look to determine the fate of the betrayed wife. Although her condition was disputed by reputable authorities, there existed a morbid enthusiasm to keep her "diagnosis" untouched and unexamined, and although the law was strictly followed, justice was not done.

The tragedy of Terri Schiavo, her martyrdom, is another chapter in the growth of the culture of death.

Our Lady Help of Christians

May Our Lady Help of Christians assist Terri Schiavo and give her a good death
Millions of unborn children, some in the process of their birth, have been relentlessly killed in the name of "choice."

Terri was condemned in the name of the "right-to-die."

Both are lies, and life is cheapened. Following the legalization of abortion, by judicial fiat in Roe v. Wade, pro-life activists predicted that euthanasia would come next. The pro-abortion crowd ridiculed the prophecy, but here we are. Terri is dying with "dignity," tongue swollen, in agony as her internal organs shut down, one by one.

What is next?

Those who comprise the culture of death are the image of those whom they condemn the most. While readily accusing their opponents of "fascism" or calling them "Nazis," the culture of death crowd advocates the most noxious of Nazi sentiments.

The culture of death allows only the strong to live, the "wanted," those who will have the proper "quality of life." All others are condemned to death. Life itself, however, means little to the culture of death advocates, and the truth even less. The preborn are creatures separate from their mothers, and Terri is responsive to her environment. The culture of death "experts," however, deny both realities, holding fast to their assertions no matter how great the evidence to the contrary.

If the culture of death "experts," politicians, physicians, and judges, are allowed to guide the United States, the society will die as surely as Terri Schiavo is dying; but, unlike Terri, society will not realize its fate. The truth that the culture of death cannot abide is that life is a gift from God. This was once a truism, but now is ridiculed by many influential individuals as a fanatical sentiment.

Ironically, the culture of death crowd is killing itself.

Artificial birth control ensures that society will have fewer children, often at a rate below replacement for the adult population. Abortion kills those who were able to be conceived. Divorce produces an environment in which those who are born lose their sense of belonging and self-worth, often leading to drug abuse and suicide.

For the culture of death adherents, euthanasia becomes the final drug "trip," while the one-world-religion-universal-consciousness gurus provide the false promise of a non-judgmental immortality.

The job for pro-life citizens is to preserve as much of civilized society as possible until the Author of life dispels the present darkness. Our hope is in the Name of the Lord … and there is the Resurrection.
