Les Terres Saintes

French Crusader song

"Les Terres Saintes " – "The Holy Land" – is a French warrior song of the Crusades. The singer encourages his fellow Catholics to go and defend the Holy Lands. The Catholic warrior must forsake vanity and frivolity, choosing instead to adorn himself with the beauty of Faith. King Saint Louis IX leads the way, eager to go on the Crusade and leave hearth and home to fight for Christ.

Les Terres Saintes was composed by Jan Fronteau in 1992 and embodies the glorious spirit of French crusaders past. It is here performed by l'École Speciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr.

Listen to Les Terres Saintes

Lyrics:

Sellez et bridez donc belles montures
Vrais chevaliers tombez toute parure

English translation:

Saddle and bridle your beautiful horses
True knights abandon all adornments.
Arm yourself, adorn yourself with your Faith
Proud Christians, the Lord sends you.

Our children exalt with joy
Their faces filled with love and singing without fear,
Representing our souls they go to defend
Jerusalem with all their hearts.

To defend the walls of the Holy Family
Its home, with a brio that has no hesitation,
And the strong towers where our dynasties fought
Offering protection to all their friends.

The flower of courage had faded by courtesy,
But now this flower of France has recovered.
King Saint Louis, in the shade of the oak,
Shines and longs for this promised land.
